ROLEX is another Swiss luxury watch manufacturing giant operating since 1908. Rolex was ranked as the world’s 71st most valuable brand. Among the top ten most expensive watches ever sold at auctions, three are Rolex watches. Ever wondered how expensive a Rolex can be? Well, not that hard enough to guess. For example, Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona holds the second most expensive wristwatch and the third most expensive watch ever sold at auction, fetching 17.75 million US dollars. The company’s great success was the “Oyster” which was fully waterproof at that time. The consumer was a little skeptical at that time but Merceded Gleitze helped ROLEX to gain the trust of the people. She was a young British swimmer who swam across the English Channel with an Oyster on her wrist, becoming the first Rolex ambassador.  ROLEX is now owned by the private Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, which is registered as a charity and does not pay corporate income taxes. However, they failed to show any evidence for the number of charitable donations made by the Wilsdorf Foundation. ROLEX is considered a massive status symbol and it produces 800,000 timepieces each year. They basically produce mechanical watches but it has also contributed to the original quartz watch movements.  Rolex is the first watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a wristwatch and there are many more achievements in their wings. With the heavy achievement, the brand, however, is not sound for the environment as it received one of the lowest environmental rankings along with seven other renowned brands like Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Breguet. There are lots of historical events associated with ROLEX and even a murder case was solved with the help of ROLEX watch. A dead body of unknown was found in the English Channel which was later identified by seeing the ROLEX watch on his hand Since the Rolex movement had a serial number and was engraved with special markings every time it was serviced, British police traced the service records from Rolex and identified the owner of the watch as Ronald Platt. Now moving to the sponsor, ROLEX is the official timekeeper of Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open, French open and all four slams. There are few major tournaments in Golf sponsored by ROLEX including the open championship, The U.S open, as well as the PGA Tour and European tour. In 2013, Rolex became the official timekeeper to the FIA Formula 1 motor racing championship. Rolex has also been the official timekeeper to the Le Mans 24 Hours motor race since 2001.
